NFTs In Literature
Updated: Dec 7, 2022

In recent years, there has been a significant spike in technological advancements in the literary industry, especially in blockchain technology. One of these unique approaches, even though it is still in its infancy, is the NFT for digital works.
Literature NFTs are digital literary works such as books, poems, and articles minted directly onto the blockchain as non-fungible tokens [NFTs]. It is possible to use NFTs for various purposes, including displaying written works, creating digital collectibles, or creating an exclusive fan community. It is even possible for writers and creators to release individual NFTs of fictional characters that appear in literary works.
In light of the fact that copyright infringement is one of the major problems facing authors, the invention of NFTs may prove to be a game changer. Non-fungible tokens (NFT) are digital identifiers that cannot be copied, substituted, or subdivided, and they are stored in blockchains and used to verify authenticity and ownership.
There have been discussions surrounding the potential of NFTs for authors and the literary industry as a whole.
The NFT disrupts the traditional publishing model by bypassing publishers altogether, allowing writers more creative freedom, flexibility, and earnings potential than ever before.
NFTs, by virtue of their decentralized nature, offer writers the potential to earn more than they do in the literary industry already. This is because the purchase of NFTs is made through blockchain currencies that are far more valuable than fiat currency. There are many potential benefits for writers associated with NFTs. In February 2021, Blake Butler minted an NFT for his book Decade and it sold for 5 Ethereum (ETH), which at the time was worth $7,569.50.
In spite of this, it is important to remember that very few writers are able to earn a living off literary NFTs on a full-time basis. It may be possible to do so, but as you develop your overall writing and marketing strategy, it is worthwhile to consider the developing nature of literary NFTs.
It is worthwhile to consider NFTs for their benefits to the publishing industry, as they add new ways to promote books and earn additional revenues.
